Film and Fundraising Night with Cal Major

Event Date: 20th March 2019, 19:00 – 21:30

Event Category: Talk / Conference

Location: Westward Ho!

Cost: Free

In Spring 2018, local resident, Cal Major embarked on an epic, unsupported paddleboard journey from Lands End to John O’Groats. Her record breaking 1,000 mile journey was completed in just 59 days! This new film documents her adventure.

Her mission was to highlight that wherever we are in the UK we’re never too far from plastic pollution affecting our beaches, ocean and waterways. She found that despite the severity of this issue, hope and positive action can be found the entire length of the country.

A full screening of the documentary about her adventure will be shown with Cal Major on hand to answer questions and sign your paddleboards!

The offical trailer can be watched at the top of this post.

Preceding Cal’s remarkable documentary will be the first public screening of “Westward Ho! Rises Against Plastic!” from ReFuse & ReUse and North Devon Videography. Beautifully shot in Westward Ho! by local filmmaker Shannon Lavis, this short film shows how the Westward Ho! community came together to learn about the plastic pollution challenge and what change they can make to help.

Cal Major and members of the Plastic Free Torridge team will be available during the evening to answer any questions raised by these films.

Admission is FREE. However, we would encourage you to make a monetary donation on the door. All donations received will be split equally between Cal Major – Paddle Against Plastic, to help fund her future work and Plastic Free Torridge to help fund a new gazebo and beach cleaning equipment.

ReFuse & ReUse and the Westward Ho! Business Association (Visit Westward Ho) are honoured to be presenting these two films to our local community.

Many thanks to Robert Braddick and Braddicks Holiday Centre North Devon for sponsoring the room cost and to Peter Sawyer for providing the video and sound engineering.

There is no age restriction on this event.
